Metabolic Balance

November 6, 2013 By Alex Gellman

I am happy to tell you about my newest discovery in nutrition that came about as a result of my own recent bout of ill health. For the last four years I have been pushing myself something fierce – working to complete my PhD at the same time as my holistic nutrition degree. The crazy pace caught up to me and I had a health crash in September.

Many of my old symptoms returned:

  • Hives and rashes so bad I could tear off my skin
  • IBS
  • Vertigo
  • Sleepless nights
  • Bronchitis and coughing
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Edema
  • Rings and shoes did not fit
  • Weight gain of 10 pounds
  • Bloated out of proportion – nothing fit

I went to my nutritionist and she told me I was burnt out – something I already knew – but what to do about it, considering all I want to achieve every day?

Given that I already know about many methods of dealing with burnout through proper diet and homeopathy, we both considered my case a stubborn one, and so my nutritionist introduced me to “Metabolic Balancing”. The program was created in Germany by Dr. Wolf Funfack. It is designed to stabilize blood sugar levels to achieve optimal function of hormones and body systems.

It was expensive, but I was tired of being sick for 6 weeks, so I went for it; Amazingly, within 2 days of being on the plan all my ailments listed above were gone. I am a petite little thing and I had ballooned to 116 lbs. but quickly got down to 107 lbs.

Needless to say, I was eager to help others with this extraordinary plan and am pleased to announce I have recently achieved certification as a Metabolic Balance Coach.

The plan uses 30 blood markers that measure inflammation in the body. That blood work is sent to the German labs, along with the personal history of the patient.

A personal food protocol is created based on the blood work results. In addition, since the blood sugar levels are completely stabilized – this leads to decreased inflammation in the body. Remember that every time you eat refined breads, commercial meat and sugar you raise your insulin levels. This leads the body to produce arachodonic acid which leads to the production of prostaglandin 2.

Prostoglandin 2 Causes:

  • Raised blood pressure
  • Increases in fat mass and lipids
  • Inflammation
  • Reduced immunity
  • Water retention
  • Shut down in bronchial passages
  • And more …

The body is a brilliant mechanism that if allowed, under the healthy conditions will return to its ideal weight.

My recent certification as Metabolic Balance Coach gives me the key that will help 80 to 90 % of my patients lose weight. As a weight loss coach, it is a challenge to find plans that work for weight loss in some stubborn cases. Metabolic Balancing is certainly moving fat and rebalancing systems in those stubborn cases – including mine!

Glycemic Index vs. Glycemic Load – Why You Need to Know the Difference

The Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load are used to measure the rise of blood sugar when carbohydrates are consumed. It is important to know the difference between these two terms in order to make wise food choices. Carbohydrates are not the enemy – they are an important fuel for our day-to-day activities. But it is […]

Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle with Vega Allergy Testing

Hidden Food Sensitivities A health consultation with me may involve testing with the Vega Allergy Testing System. This is a non-invasive (and painless) system to test food, chemical, and other intolerances and sensitivities, and isolate foods contributing to inflammation and digestive concerns. It helps identify foods and substances to which you may be sensitive, although not allergic. […]

How to Get a Quick Boost With a Healthy Habit

I had a woman ask me recently: “Why is my life so hard?” She had experienced a string of stressful life events, including a health scare. Her problems were directly related to her lifestyle, though, and could be alleviated if not completely cured by a change in eating and introducing exercise habits. How many […]

HOMEOPATHY AND WHY IT WORKS

Homeopathy is an incredible system that has the ability to heal and help all who call upon it. While deciding on my path there was a great debate whether to go the Naturopathic College or Homeopathic College. My own years of personal healing made that decision for me. I experienced both protocols growing up and decided to pursue […]

Stress, Your Health, and Nutrition

“Have 5 vegetables a day!” “Eat fresh fruit, not cookies!”     Many of us heard a version of these phrases from a parent or guardian when we were kids. Though we may have protested, even our child-size brains knew they had a point. Your parent’s main concern was that you thrive and grow into […]
