Holiday TIp #19 – Be Selective

December 19, 2013 By Alex Gellman

19.  Scan the buffet table. It’s like a large mall with tons of beautiful clothes but you only have X amount of money. Be selective. Do not buy all the dresses or you will pay with massive debt in the new year. Likewise, if you eat all the food at the buffet table, your favorite holiday dress may not like you so much.

Holiday Tip #18 – Be True to Yourself

December 18, 2013 By Alex Gellman

18.  Do not eat treats to please others. Your friend brought her favorite  cheesecake – you can pass or just take a teaspoon.

Holiday Tip #14 – Exercise

December 14, 2013 By Alex Gellman

14.  Increase exercise. If you exercise regularly add 20 minutes to your cardio portion or weight training.

If you do not exercise, then start, especially if you wish to indulge in treats. For every day you indulge you add an exercise day or increase by 20 minutes. Exercise such as skipping for 20 minutes, stimulates the lymphatic system.

Holiday Tip #13 – BYO

13.  Bring your own favorite sweet or treat to the party – that way you know what is in it and you are guaranteed a great treat. How often has your discipline crumbled to have a piece of cake and at the end it was not even that good.

Holiday Tip #12 – Alcohol

December 12, 2013 By Alex Gellman Leave a Comment

12.  Alcohol – try the old favorite: a spritzer. Alcohol will erase your determination to restrict your intake of food. Alcohol eliminates inhibitions.

“With just 123 calories for a 5-ounce glass, wine is a calorie bargain compared to other alcoholic beverages, like gin and tonic (164 calories), buttered rum–spiced cider (275 calories), and eggnog (321 calories). If you’re in the mood for a cocktail, feel free— but have only one alcoholic beverage before switching to a lower-calorie drink, like iced tea or sparkling water with a twist of lemon or lime.

Regardless of the drink you choose, don’t pour yourself a glass until you sit down to dinner. By pairing that pinot with a meal, however, you may compensate for those extra calories in your glass by eating a little less of what’s on your plate: Research from Colorado State University found that people who sipped wine with their evening meal every night for six weeks didn’t put on any weight.”
